About What Year Was?
What Year Was? is a daily history game built around one simple question: what year did it happen?
Every day, players are challenged with 10 memorable moments from history, science, technology, culture, sport and entertainment. The goal is to estimate the year as accurately as possible and compare the final score with other players.
The game includes events from ancient history through the modern day. Older events receive a wider scoring tolerance, while modern events require more precise guesses.
New games are released every day at midnight, and previous games remain available in the Archive.
Historical information is collected from publicly available sources such as Wikipedia and Wikidata. Images are used only when their licensing allows reuse, with source and attribution information displayed where required.
